KUCHING, July 20: A one-way ticket from Singapore to Kuching on AirBorneo costs only about S$100, a price Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg says will make it easier for Singaporeans to visit Sarawak and “enjoy our laksa Sarawak”.
Speaking to reporters during a press conference at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 on AirBorneo’s inaugural Kuching-Kuala Lumpur jet service today, Abang Johari said the airline’s fixed RM399 fare to Singapore would remain unchanged throughout the year.
“Our fare to Singapore is fixed at RM399 and that will enhance the journey between Singapore and Kuching.
“Actually, if you convert to Singapore dollars, it’s only S$100. So they just buy S$100, they’re in Kuching already and they can enjoy our laksa Sarawak in Kuching,” he said.
He said the affordable fare is expected to strengthen Sarawak’s tourism sector by attracting more visitors from the neighbouring republic.
“In other words, the tourism element factor will be enhanced,” he added.
Besides promoting Sarawak’s renowned cuisine, Abang Johari said the State is also positioning itself as a destination for medical tourism through the expansion of its healthcare facilities.
He said new hospitals being developed in Kuching would further strengthen Sarawak’s medical tourism offerings and complement the State’s efforts to attract more regional visitors.
At the same time, he said AirBorneo would help showcase Sarawak’s internationally recognised attractions, including the UNESCO World Heritage Sites at Niah Caves and Gunung Mulu National Park as well as Kuching’s designation as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy.
AirBorneo is set to commence its inaugural Kuching-Singapore service on July 22, coinciding with the celebration of Sarawak Day. — DayakDaily
