KUCHING, Feb 22: Traders at the Ramadan bazaars in Sarikei and Tanjung Manis must prioritise food safety, cleanliness and proper waste management to ensure visitors have a safe and comfortable experience, says Sarawak Deputy Minister for Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Datuk Len Talif Salleh.

According to a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) report, he said maintaining high standards is essential as hundreds of traders operate daily during Ramadan, serving large crowds at peak hours.

“Food sold at the bazaars must be fresh, hygienic and safe for consumption, while stalls and surrounding areas should be kept clean and orderly to safeguard public health,” he said.

In Sarikei, 186 stalls are operating this year’s bazaar, while 27 have been set up in Tanjung Manis, according to his Facebook post.

Len, who is also the Kuala Rajang assemblyman, described the bazaars as important platforms for small traders to earn an income during Ramadan while fostering a lively festive atmosphere in both districts.

He also urged the public to support local traders, saying spending at the bazaars would help strengthen the local economy and improve livelihoods within the community. — DayakDaily
