KUCHING, April 4: A food manufacturing company was fined RM5,000 by the Magistrate’s Court here today as a product manufactured by the company contained benzoic acid.
A representative of Sin Lee Yak Enterprise Sdn Bhd pleaded guilty to the charge.
According to the charge sheet, on October 8, 2021, at about 10.16am, an officer from Kuching Division Health office purchased three packets of kuey tiaw which was manufactured by the company, from a supermarket at Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce. Out of the three packets of kuey tiaw, one was found to contain benzoic acid at 1,230mg/kg.
The company therefore committed an offence under Section 13B(2)(e) of the Food Act 1983 and punishable under Section 13B(4) of the same Act, which carries a fine of not more than RM200,000 or imprisonment not exceeding five years. ā DayakDaily
