KUCHING, May 5: Vulnerable households in the Batu Kitang constituency affected by the current Covid-19 pandemic and Movement Control Order (MCO) have received food from the ongoing state government’s food aid distribution programme.

Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang disclosed the first phase of distribution involving recipients from Bumiputera areas had been implemented by the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) N13 Batu Kitang branch with the cooperation of community leaders.

“Phase two of distribution involved recipients from the housing area, factory quarters, rented houses and flat residents,” he revealed in a press release today.

Lo explained that the food aid programme was initiated by the state government with an allocation of RM200,000 for each state constituency.

“The lists of recipients are prepared by the village chiefs according to a set of criteria,” he added.

He disclosed that the main criteria to be eligible for food aid include those who have lost their source of income such as daily wage workers, single mothers, welfare aid recipients, Baitulmal aid recipients and residents cut off from getting food supplies.

Lo hoped that the food aid will be able to reduce part of the burden carried by affected residents while awaiting the Prihatin National Assistance and Sarawakku Sayang Special Assistance financial aid to be credited into their respective accounts.

Meanwhile, he revealed the PBB Batu Kitang branch also received a contribution of 100 fresh chickens from Ayam Segar SL Sdn Bhd which have been delivered to Penghulu Sabtuyah Yusuf to make ‘bubur lambuk’ to be distributed in Batu Kitang in conjunction with the month of Ramadan. — DayakDaily
