KUCHING, Feb 11: Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Youth secretary-general Milton Foo wants an explanation on the progress and status of Petra Jaya Hospital as the project has been on hold since July 2018.
“The project has been put to a halt for up to 18 months, two months after Pakatan Harapan (PH) came into power to administer the country,” Milton revealed, questioning Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs, Chong Chieng Jen in a press statement today.
“If the PH government truly cares about the healthcare of the people of Sarawak, where is our Petra Jaya Hospital?”
According to Foo, the contract to construct Petra Jaya Hospital which was initiated by the previous government was terminated by the PH federal government
“Works Minister YB Baru Bian had on February 22 last year said in a press statement that the re-tender documents would be available for purchase on February 25, 2019,”
“But 18 months have lapsed since termination and until now, no one is seen working at the site on the said project. Chong, please tell us what happened to our Petra Jaya Hospital?” Foo questioned.
He added that the construction cost will be higher as the prices for building materials will have increased due to the delay and also as life threatening diseases such as novel coronavirus strikes Sarawak.
“Chong should put his words into action to ensure the hospital project is going on smoothly without further delay or interruption. It affects our people’s lives, don’t just talk how much you care for Sarawakians but prove it through concrete action,” Foo emphasised. — DayakDaily
