KUCHING, Nov 6: Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Youth secretary-general Milton Foo is looking to Bandar Kuching MP for answers on the progress of the RM150 million flood mitigation project in Kuching.
He urged Dr Kelvin Yii to follow up closely on the federal government funded project which was planned to have the physical construction started by 2021.
“Last year in October, (Dr) Yii brought up that Sarawak Irrigation and Drainage Department (DID) had proposed the Sungai Sarawak Integrated River Basin Project (PLSB) covering nine areas.
“It was further directed that the bidding and contracting plans responsible and monitored by DID, were scheduled to be completed by November 2019.
“The detailed designing process including land acquisition and investigation would be carried out from December 2019 to December 2020 with plans that the physical construction will start in 2021,” he explained in a statement yesterday (Nov 5).
In bringing this up, Foo was addressing the recent issue of flash floods at Kuching’s many low lying areas, including Pending Kenyalang Park, area in front of SJK Chung Hua No 5 Jalan Chawan, Kali Garden’s Jalan Resak and Jalan Foochow No 2 among other places.
Concerned about the safety of the residents, he further urged Dr Yii to have the Parliament to put more concern and urgency on the matter. ā DayakDaily
