PUTRAJAYA, May 3: Students of public higher learning institutions (IPTA) are eligible for an RM300 digital voucher following FLYsiswa’s return yesterday (May 2).

According to a TVS news report, the initiative is to help subsidise the purchase of flight tickets for IPTA students to travel domestic routes between Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, Sarawak, and the Federal Territory of Labuan.

Qualified students are those attending public universities, polytechnics, and community colleges under the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), as well as matriculation colleges and teacher education institutes under the Ministry of Education (MOE).

Based on the press statement issued by the Ministry of Transport (MOT), eligibility during the initial phase of FLYsiswa is limited to students who remain registered and actively attending their respective institutions as of December 31, 2023.

“The subsidy will be implemented in the second phase, beginning in July, for newer students with admissions between January 1 and March 31.

“After review, students can apply for subsidised assistance in the purchase of flight tickets from any airline providers, namely Malaysia Airlines (including MASwings and FireFly), AirAsia, or Batik Air through their respective websites,” said MOT according to the statement issued.

According to the statement, ineligible students are allowed to review and make an appeal to their respective educational institutions.

Once the application is received, the airline will issue a digital voucher to students as a credit amount to purchase the flight tickets. If the price of the ticket is less than RM300, the remaining value of the digital voucher will remain as credit and can be used for future flight ticket purchases.

“The voucher application period for the purchase of flight tickets is from May 2 to November 30. Meanwhile, the redemption period for the purchase of flight tickets will be until December 31,” said MOT.

The initiative of giving digital vouchers worth RM300 to IPTA students was previously implemented on August 15, 2023, and ended on December 31 of the same year.
