KOTA SAMARAHAN, June 14: The construction of flyovers will overcome the problem of road construction challenges on peat soil in Sarawak.

According to a report by TVS, Minister of Works Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the construction method is being implemented in Package 11 of the Pan Borneo Highway project in the Lambir area in Miri.

“If we use the usual method when roads are built, there will be cracks. Now, we change to using flyovers because the ground is unstable and we spend RM60 million (to implement it),” he told reporters after the handing over of the First Phase of the Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) Prima Health Center Project here yesterday (June 13).

Nanta said that with the experience possessed by the Public Works Department (JKR), it is possible to determine the most suitable method to overcome the road construction problems faced in this country.

To him, the construction of flyovers is recognised as a suitable method for road construction on peat land and is capable of reducing maintenance costs once completed. — DayakDaily
