Flood watch: 51 moved to relief centres in Lundu, three areas in Bintulu affected

LUNDU, Dec 7: A total of 51 people from 12 households from several villages here have been moved to two flood relief centres as in 12pm today.

According to the State Disaster Management Committee secretariat chief, Maj Ismail Mahedi from the Civil Defence Force, said 42 individuals from Kampung Sebat Melayu and Kampung Sebat Baru were relocated to a temporary evacuation centre at SK Sebat at 8am.

“Another temporary relocation centre in Kampung Sebat Dayak community hall was open to accommodate another nine people from two households,” he said in a statement.

Meanwhile in Bintulu, the heavy rain since yesterday afternoon had caused flooding in town.

A report from the Civil Defence Force (APM) mentioned Kampung Asyakirin, Kampung Kemunting and the Sg Sebatang area among the affected areas.

“Several houses at Kampung Asyarikin were flooded but no evacuation was held as the situation is still under control. The water level has risen but still within one foot.

“For the Sg Sebatang area, three houses were flooded with four feet of water. APM immediately moved three victims, including a one-month-old baby. The victims are now safe and putting up with their relatives.”

Meanwhile, the flood water at Kampung Kemunting had receded and no evacuation and help is needed in the area, said the department. — DayakDaily
