Flood forces evacuation of 10 residents in Pasar Lama Pakan following continuous rainfall

KUCHING, Aug 23: Ten residents in Pasar Lama Pakan were evacuated after rising water levels inundated the area following continuous rainfall.

According to a report by TV Sarawak (TVS) today, Bintangor Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) chief Nicholas Belulin stated that firefighters were deployed upon receiving a call about the incident at 6.38pm.

“Seven of the victims managed to evacuate on their own to a safe location, while the remaining three were assisted after packing their belongings,” Nicholas said.

All victims have been relocated to a temporary evacuation center (PPS) at Pakan Community Hall.

Nicholas also reported flooding in Nanga Strass and Kampung Lemayong.

“Six longhouses were affected, with water levels rising to approximately 0.9 meters at the entrance of the longhouses,” he added. — DayakDaily
