Flash floods hit several low-lying areas in Miri

MIRI, Sept 3: Incessant rainfall since early this morning has caused flooding in several areas throughout Miri.

There have been no evacuations so far, as the situation is still under control.


According to Miri Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Zone Six Chief Supt Law Poh Kiong, the heavy rainfall has caused flash floods in Kampung Sealine and Kampung Senadin Jaya.

ā€œOur men from Lopeng and Miri fire stations) are on flood patrol, inspecting flooded areas around here and some roads especially in Kampung Sealine and Kampung Senadin Jaya, which are becoming flooded,ā€ he said.

Meanwhile in Marudi, based on observations carried out by the firemen today during their flood patrol to four prone flood areas, a swollen Ulu Sungai Baram has caused the water level to rise in the areas.

Four flood affected areas in Marudi are the Sungai Dabai surrounding area, Jalan Hii Nguan Sing, Taman Gordon Hill, Kampung Dagang Jalan Nahkhoda and Kampung Baru Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman.

In Batu Niah, six longhouses were reported flooded this morning.

These longhouses are Rumah Nelson, Rumah Ayai in Saeh, Rumah Richaed Pai, Rumah Enggu Bakas, Rumah Jambai and Rumah Linggu in Pakut. ā€” DayakDaily
