MIRI, Nov 26: Continuous heavy rain throughout Monday (Nov 25) resulted in flash floods in various parts of Miri City centre, leaving several areas submerged and disrupting traffic flow.

The downpour, which began in the afternoon and continued late into the night, overwhelmed the city’s drainage systems, resulting in flooding across multiple roads and neighborhoods.

Among the affected areas were Wireless Walk, Jalan Bintang, Jalan Cina, the Tanjong area, and Luak.

Reports indicate that many roads within the city centre became impassable, particularly to small vehicles, as floodwaters rose.

Social media was quickly flooded with video clips shared by netizens, showing submerged streets and vehicles struggling to navigate the waters.

As of 11pm last night, most of the affected roads remained under water, further compounding the inconvenience for residents.

Many have pointed to the city’s drainage systems as a key factor contributing to the severity of the incident. — DayakDaily
