Flash floods cut off villages in Niah, Miri as residents forced to use boats

MIRI, Dec 7: Flash floods have cut off Rumah Boniface Bada and Rumah Webster Rangkong in Suai, Niah, forcing villagers to use boats to cross the main road leading to their respective longhouses.

The flooding, triggered by heavy rains since Dec 4, have affected more than 400 villagers.

According to a report from the Miri Civil Defence Force (APM), the floodwater levels at Rumah Boniface reached about two and a half feet, while Rumah Webster experienced water levels of half a foot.


Miri APM personnel have been deployed to the scenes for flood monitoring.

No evacuations have been reported so far, and residents have been advised to remain vigilant as further increases in flood levels are possible during the period of heavy rainfall.
