KUCHING, May 7: Upgrading works aimed at preventing flash floods in Jalan Semaba are expected to begin soon, with three proposed drainage improvement projects identified for urgent implementation, said Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap.
According to a press release, the proposed works will be funded under an allocation of RM700,000 from Yap’s Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) funds.
As part of ongoing efforts to enhance infrastructure and mitigate flood risks in the area, Yap conducted site inspections yesterday (May 6) at designated project locations along Jalan Semaba, accompanied by engineers from the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP).
The site visits were conducted to evaluate the current condition of several earth drains and to enable MPP engineers to prepare the detailed scope of works and bill of quantities for each proposed upgrade.
“Proper drainage is essential for preventing flash floods and ensuring the safety and comfort of our community.
“Today’s inspection enables us to finalise the necessary plans and cost estimates, allowing the projects to move forward smoothly under the RTP initiatives,” Yap said.
He added that the visit allowed both his office and MPP to finalise technical plans and cost estimates to ensure the projects proceed smoothly once formal approvals are granted.
During the inspection, technical discussions were held between Yap and MPP’s engineering team to ensure that the proposed drainage upgrades are designed effectively to resolve longstanding water flow problems in the area.
Yap also expressed appreciation to MPP for their cooperation and support throughout the planning stages. He assured local residents that once approved, the projects would be implemented efficiently with minimal disruption to the community.
The drainage upgrades are expected to commence once all necessary documentation, approvals, and fund disbursements under the RTP initiative are finalised.
Yap reaffirmed his commitment to implementing drainage and infrastructure improvements aimed at enhancing the quality of life for residents in N12 Kota Sentosa. — DayakDaily
