Five Sarawak dancers to compete at World DanceSport event in France

KUCHING, Feb12: Five Sarawak dancers will put their best foot forward in the upcoming World DanceSport Federation (WDSF) French Open to be held Feb 15 to 17, 2025 in Lyon, France.

According to a press statement, the five, Cordelia Wee, Amy Kho, Eunice Ling, Erin Ung and Arabelle Leah Pei, will be competing at the WDSF French Open for the first time. They will be accompanied by team manager cum coach Cindy Chung of Russell, Randell & Cindy Dance Company based in Kuching.

Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah who presented the state colours to the team, commended the dancers for the adventurous spirit and courage to step up the challenge on the international arena and keep the Sarawak flag flying high.

Abdul Karim advised the dancers to try their best since this is the first time they are venturing into European competition arena.

Wee, Kho, Ling, Ung and Pei who had hitherto, performed well in their respective categories at various competitions in Singapore, Philippines, Vietnam Kuala Lumpur, Johor and Sabah, will be leaving for Lyon, France on Feb 12 to participate in the WDSF French Open Junior II, Youth and Adult Solo Latin events.

Sarawak DanceSport Association (SDA) president Chester Lim and vice-president Dr Victor Bong were also present at the function.

Lim disclosed that the next competition for SDA dancers will be the Bailando Open Championships 2025.

Meanwhile, Lim also enthused that SDA is planning to hold the Sarawak Open International DanceSport Championship this year and various training and workshop programmes for both athletes and officials. – DayakDaily
