MIRI, Dec 5: Five local men alleged to have been involved in assaulting another man in Batu Niah on Monday night (Dec 2) have been remanded for three days to assist a police probe into the case.
Magistrate Steve Ritkos ordered the suspects aged 23, 24, 27, 33 and 54, to be remanded until Dec 7 under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting.
The accused were produced at Miri Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
All suspects were arrested by the police on Dec 3 around 2.30pm along Jalan Raja during ‘Ops Cantas’.
The arrests were made following a police report by the 32-year-old victim the day of the attack.
The alleged incident occurred on Dec 2 around 11pm inside a room located on the upper floor of an eatery in Simpang Batu Niah here.
The suspects were alleged to have attacked the victim and smashed his car’s windscreen. — DayakDaily
