Five nabbed for allegedly trafficking foreign nationals into the state

KUCHING, Oct 29: Two local men allegedly the mastermind for trafficking foreign nationals into the state, together with three Indonesian men were arrested by police along the Serian-Tebedu road today.

According to Serian District police chief DSP Aswandy Anis in a statement, the arrest was made by a team of police from the Sarawak Contingent Police Headquarters (IPK Sarawak) special branch at Kampung Tubih Behem, along Serian-Tebedu road, at about 8 am.

“The two local men aged 38 and 46 are believed to be the mastermind for smuggling foreigners into Sarawak, and the arrest was made under Section 26A of the Anti-Trafficking in Person and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act (ATIPSOM) 2007.


“All of the suspects were brought to Tebedu police station for further investigation,” he said.

Meanwhile, Aswandy also called for the cooperation from the public, especially in Serian to not get involved in any activities involving trafficking foreigners into the state, in order to curb the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.

He stressed that action will be taken under ATIPSOM for anyone who is caught being involved in such activities.

“Any information on any smuggling activities should be channeled to the police in order for  appropriate action to be taken, and the local community should also contribute in preventing the spread of Covid-19 by working together with the frontliners,” he added. –DayakDaily.
