Five districts account for almost 70 pct of Sarawak’s new 1,667 Covid-19 cases today

KUCHING, Aug 25: Kuching, Samarahan, Bau, Sibu and Lundu districts all three-digit gains in new Covid-19 cases today, accounting for almost 70 per cent of the 1,667 total in Sarawak.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said Kuching recorded 620 cases while Samarahan, Bau, Sibu and Lundu registered 151, 139, 125 and 118 cases respectively.


Other districts that saw double-digit case numbers were Serian (71), Pusa (61), Bintulu (53), Belaga (53), Mukah (44), Selangau (38), Song (33), Simunjan (26), Sri Aman (25), Subis (21), Miri (16), Kapit (16), Tatau (16) and Tebedu (11).

The remaining districts with new infections were Asajaya (8), Beluru (5), Sarikei (3), Sebauh (3), Betong (2), Matu (2), Kanowit (2), Telang Usan (2), Lawas (1), Limbang (1) and Saratok (1).

With this, SDMC said the cumulative number of cases in Sarawak now stands at 103,048.

“Out of the 1,667 patients, 968 were detected following close contact screenings where 123 of them were symptomatic.

“Another 225 cases were of individual screenings from active clusters where 23 of them showed signs and symptoms of Covid-19 infection.

“Adding on, 110 cases were of symptomatic screenings, 361 cases were from other screenings in health facilities, and three more were Import-B cases from Perlis, Sabah and Selangor,” it said in its daily Covid-19 update today.

Of the total, SDMC noted 1,392 cases or 83.50 per cent were in Category 1 whereby the patients do not develop any symptoms.

There were 273 patients with mild symptoms in Category 2, zero new cases in Category 3, one case patient lung infection while requiring oxygen in Category 4, and one patient in Category 5 who needs ventilator support.

Meanwhile, 970 patients were discharged from hospitals across Sarawak, so there remains 16,878 active cases in isolation or treatment. — DayakDaily
