KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 14: Five dilapidated schools in Sibuti has been proposed for upgrades under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP).
Deputy Education Minister Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon said the repair of dilapidated schools in Sarawak will be implemented in three phases and depended on the financial status of the federal government.
“Schools such as SK Batu Niah, SK Rumah Tinggi, SK Beliau Isa, SK Sait, and SK Ulu Satap has been listed under the proposed development of dilapidated schools in 12MP.
“Nonetheless, the approval of those projects will depend on priority and the financial status of the government.
“Under the first rolling plan of 12MP in 2021, the federal government has approved the construction of the male classroom replacement block, canteen and other amenities at SMK Luar Bandar Miri,” he disclosed in Parliament here today.
Dr Mah was replying to Sibuti MP Lukasnisman Awang Sauni who asked the Education Ministry on the number of dilapidated schools in Sarawak which needed to be upgraded and whether SK Batu Niah, SK Rumah Tinggi and SK Ulu Satap in the Sibuti constituency will be included for upgrade under 12MP.
Dr Mah disclosed that the Education Ministry has identified 41 dilapidated schools in the Sibuti constituency which were in bad conditions as at November 15.
He revealed that the first phase of repairing dilapidated schools in Sarawak involved 41 schools for which repairs were in various stages of implementation at the moment.
For the second phase, Dr Mah said it involved 52 schools which were in the invitation for development and tender stages.
For the third phase, Dr Mah said the Education Ministry through the Sarawak Education Department and Sarawak government has also identified 55 dilapidated schools in Sarawak which need to berebuilt using the balance of the funds from the earlier contra repayment by the state government which amounts to RM300 million.
He disclosed that there were three dilapidated schools in the Sibuti constituency which has been selected to undergo repairs using funds from the contra repayment.
Dr Mah added, the list of the dilapidated schools in Sibuti which require repairs was being finalised and will be presented to the federal agency for approval. — DayakDaily
