MIRI, Oct 31: Five men, including one with a ‘Datuk’ title, were arrested following an altercation inside a bistro at Jalan North Yu Seng here during the wee hours of Monday.

Miri Police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah when contacted today, disclosed that all suspects have been taken into police custody to assist the police probe into the 1.30am incident. The suspects are aged between 15 to 41.

An individual, believed to be one of the bistro owner’s sons, was reported to have sustained injury during the incident.

“For the man with the ‘Datuk’ title, we will investigate to ascertain whether the title is genuine or not,” Lim said.

Police also seized a BMW car believed to belong to the ‘Datuk’.

Lim added, a preliminary check revealed the car might be bearing a fake registration number.

He also disclosed the brawl was believed to have been sparked by misunderstanding between two groups of men who were having a drinking session.

They are all suspected to have been under the influence of alcohol.

“The premises’ manager who happens to be the son of the bistro owner had attempted to break up the fight, but he eventually was beaten up by the groups,” Lim said.
