KUCHING, Aug 3: A weekend camping and fishing trip turned into a rescue situation for four men after their boat was swept away by strong river currents near Rumah (Rh) Magereta, Kampung Kerangan Buloh, in Julau.

According to a report by the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the incident occurred on Saturday (Aug 2) at around 4pm when the victims went down to the river in a boat.

However, due to strong currents, their boat was carried away, leaving them stranded without communication as there was no mobile coverage in the area.

The victims eventually managed to contact a friend for help. At approximately 6am the next morning (Aug 3), their friend successfully reached them and brought all four to safety.

The victims—identified as Welson Tana, Samuel Ansi, Micheal Belon, and Jayden Jericho—did not sustain any injuries. Their boat was later found in Batu Matop.

The Bintangor station deployed firefighters to the victims’ residence at the government quarters in Jalan Julau to collect information on the incident. No rescue operation was required.
