Fisherman missing after boat capsizes off Daro coast found dead

KUCHING, Dec 13: The body of a fisherman who went missing after his boat capsized off the coast of Kampung Tekajong, Daro, on Thursday (Dec 11) was found today on the third day of the search and rescue (SAR) operation.

In a report from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the SAR team found a body floating in the waters, about four nautical miles from the shore.

The body has been handed over to the police, who brought it to the hospital.

According to the chronology of events, at around 11am on Dec 11, the Daro Police Station’s inquiry office received information from the public about two individuals who had been thrown into the sea when their boat capsized.

“The boat was on the way from Kampung Betanak to Kuala Matu before being hit by a big wave when passing the Tanjung Sirik area near Pulau Bruit at around 9am,” said the report.

One of the victims, 42-year-old Kaharruddin Buang, managed to swim to shore.

However, his brother-in-law, 59-year-old Aldin Rakli, was unable to swim to land, prompting the SAR operation. — DayakDaily
