Fisherman dies after falling into fish storage compartment in Kabong

KUCHING, Dec 23: A fisherman died after falling into a fish storage compartment on a fishing vessel while it was in the waters off Kabong on Monday (Dec 22).

According to TVS, Saratok District Police Chief (KPD) DSP Mathew Manggie said the victim was identified as Muliadi Mohd Riduan Abdullah, 26, from Sibu.

He said the incident occurred while the fishing vessel was being helmed, adding that the victim fell due to strong sea waves.

“Initial investigations found that the victim had fallen into the compartment used to store fish containers inside the vessel,” he said.

He added that the incident was witnessed by another crew member who then sought help from other colleagues to rescue the victim.

However, the victim was believed to have sustained severe injuries to the head and face and was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The victim’s body was later taken to Tanjung Manis Jetty before a police report was lodged for further action.

“Initial investigations and witness statements found no criminal elements in the incident, and the case has been classified as a Sudden Death Report (SDR),” he said. — DayakDaily
