KUCHING, Oct 7: An elderly couple whose home was targeted in a firecracker attack days ago have been targeted again, this time with paint allegedly splashed on their house at about 3.30am today.
According to a statement, the Sarawak United Peoples’ Party Public Complaints Bureau (SUPP PCB) received a second complaint from the elderly couple following the latest incident, which occurred just days after the Bureau highlighted the earlier firecracker attack at a press conference on Oct 3.
The Bureau said the repeated incidents were allegedly linked to debts involving the couple’s son, who no longer resides at the house, leaving his elderly parents to face the alleged harassment.
While no one was physically injured in either incident, the repeated attacks have caused the couple significant psychological distress and raised concerns over their safety, according to the Bureau.
SUPP PCB chief Milton Foo condemned the alleged acts, stressing that while debts should be repaid, debt recovery must be carried out through legal channels.
“Debt recovery must strictly follow legal channels and must never involve any acts of arson, mischief, intimidation or harassment of any kind,” he said.
Foo urged police to take the matter seriously, investigate the incidents swiftly and bring those responsible to justice.
The Bureau also cautioned the public against borrowing from illegal moneylenders, warning that such loans could put not only borrowers but also their families at risk. —DayakDaily
