TATAU, March 24: Firefighters successfully contained a bush fire in Kuala Tatau Serupai, after a two-day operation that covered an estimated five acres of land.
The fire was first reported yesterday (March 230 at 4.03pm. The Fire and Rescue Station (Bomba) Tatau team arrived at the scene at 4.37pm, about 40 kilometres from the station.
Upon arrival, the team, led by PBT I Sim Mun Chai, confirmed the fire and immediately began containment operations.
The blaze, which occurred in a bushy area, was difficult to access, requiring firefighters to carry portable pumps approximately 300 metres from the nearest road. Firefighting efforts included a 300-foot hose line and water jets sourced from a nearby open ditch.
Operations resumed today at 8.30am with firefighters deploying specialised equipment, including a Godiva GP 10/10 pump, to tackle areas of lingering smoke.
By late afternoon, the fire was under control, although some smoke remained in isolated areas, far from residential zones.
The operation was temporarily suspended at 6pm due to darkness and weather conditions. — DayakDaily
