KUCHING, Nov 6: Barely two days after firefighters declared victory over a week-long blaze, flames erupted once again at the Batu 9, Jalan Indah Ria tyre factory early this morning.
According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department, it received a call at 6.30am regarding renewed flames at the tyre storage area of the factory, just two days after the previous blaze was declared extinguished on Nov 4.
A team of 13 firefighters from the Kota Samarahan Fire and Rescue Station (BBP Kota Samarahan), assisted by BBP Kota Sentosa, was deployed to the location.
“The fire involved a pile of tyres, the firefighters extinguished it using the relay pumping technique of transporting the pump to the machinery pump, 600 feet of delivery hose, two nozzles and a flow of first aid hose to extinguish the fire,” it said.
Firefighters are still working to bring the situation under control as thick smoke continues to rise from the area, fuelled by smouldering rubber materials that had previously been doused.
Previously, it was also found that this tyre factory had been operating storage activities without a valid licence. – DayakDaily
