KUCHING, Oct 1: A fire broke out at a three-storey electrical appliance shoplot at 7th Mile, Kota Sentosa today.
A team of 36 firefighters from Batu Lintang and Tabuan Jaya, arrived minutes after receiving the call at 6.10pm and proceeded to douse the area with water.
The Fire and Rescue Department operation centre said the firefighters immediately employed offensive and defensive methods to control the flames, while another team was tasked with preventing the fire from spreading.
The flames eventually spread to the convenience store next door, and subsequently a third shop which was a rental premises.
It was learnt that the fire spread rapidly because the fire walls in the building were not structured according to Bomba specifications.
The electrical appliance shop was 90 per cent damaged, while the convenience store was 60 per cent damaged. The rental premises was 30 per cent damaged.
At press time, the fire had been brought under control but firefighters are still at the scene conducting overhaul work to ensure that the flames will not re-ignite.
Bomba will investigate the cause of the fire tomorrow.
No injuries were reported during the incident. — DayakDaily
