KUCHING, Sept 20: A row of fruit stalls at 9th Mile, Jalan Kuching-Serian, together with a lorry and a Perodua Viva, was razed by fire early this morning.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Kota Samarahan received the emergency call at 6.22am and was assisted by teams from Kota Sentosa, Batu Lintang, and Siburan stations.
Operation commander Awangku Ahmad Hanafiah said the blaze completely destroyed the fruit stalls, which covered an area measuring 60 by 120 square metres.
A four-wheel-drive vehicle parked nearby also sustained about 10 per cent damage. Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported.
Firefighters employed defensive firefighting techniques, drawing water from both hydrants and fire trucks to bring the flames under control.
The operation was declared over at around 9.50am after firefighters confirmed there were no remaining sources of ignition and the site was safe. — DayakDaily
