Fire destroys 48 doors of two longhouses in Pasai Siong

A total of 48-door of two longhouses in Pasai Siong in Sibu were destroyed in a fire incident on Oct 19, 2020.

SIBU, Oct 19: An afternoon fire destroyed 48 doors of two longhouses in Pasai Siong in Sibu today.

Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said they received an emergency call from the Malaysian Emergency Response Services 999 (MERS 999) at 1.54 pm. Firefighters from Bomba Sungai Merah were deployed to the location, supported by a team from Bomba Sibu.

“Operation commander reported that the incident involving two blocks of longhouses namely Rumah Panjang Jelian and Rumah Panjang Langi were 80 per cent destroyed in the incident,” it said in a statement.

According to the statement, 15 motorcycles together with three vehicles, one three-tonne lorry and one van were also affected by the fire.

“No casualties were reported as firefighters managed to put out the flames at 3.05 pm, followed by overhaul works,” the statement added.

It was also noted that Rumah Panjang Jelian was occupied by 260 villagers, while no information was provided on the number of Rumah Panjang Langi’s occupants. –DayakDaily.
