Fire destroys 3 blocks at SK Jaong in Pantu, no injuries reported

SRI AMAN, Nov 18: A fire ravaged through three blocks at SK Jaong in Kampung Jaong, Pantu yesterday evening.

Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Zone 3 Sri Aman chief PgB Ramlan Marajan disclosed that despite the buildings’ occupants trying their very best to douse the raging fire with a total of eight extinguishers, they were unable to control the blaze as it spread too fast across the wooden blocks.


The Bomba operations centre was alerted to the incident through MERS 999 at 7.30pm yesterday.

As the school is located 74km away from the nearest fire station, firefighters took one hour and 17 minutes to reach the scene.

The blocks’ occupants tried to douse the fire with eight fire extinguishers but failed because the fire spread too fast.

Upon arrival at the location, operation commander PPgB James Whelan reported the fire involved a block of occupied teachers’ quarters with five doors which was completely destroyed.

The fire also spread to two other blocks, which serve as residential quarters with two doors each.

The eight occupants were reported safe and unharmed. — DayakDaily
