Fire damages six homes at Miri’s Jalan Taman Futee, 29 displaced including families away for Gawai

MIRI, May 30: Six single-storey terrace houses on Lorong 3, Jalan Taman Futee were engulfed by fire, leaving 29 people displaced and devastated, including families who travelled back to their villages for the Gawai Dayak festival.

According to a report, Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak responded to the emergency at 10.20am today (May 30) and teams of firefighters from the Lopeng, Miri Central and Lutong stations were swiftly mobilised to the scene.

No casualties or injuries were reported, although some residents were at home during the incident while others had returned to their villages ahead of the Gawai celebrations.

A team of about 20 firefighters successfully controlled and extinguished the flames which affected private properties numbered Lot 2908 to 2913.

At present, all displaced individuals are staying with relatives and friends temporarily.

The Miri Division of the Community Welfare Department stands ready to provide assistance to the fire victims pending the completion of necessary documentation.

Bomba Sarawak said the cause of the fire and the estimated loss incurred are still being investigated. — DayakDaily
