Financial council rolls out free financial planning programme on Oct 5 to educate public, youth

KUCHING, Oct 2: The Malaysian Financial Planning Council (MFPC) Sarawak Chapter is set to hold a free ‘My Money and Me’ programme this Saturday, Oct 5, aimed at empowering the public, especially youths, with better financial management skills.

According to a press release, MFPC Sarawak Chapter chairman KC Chang emphasised the programme’s importance in promoting sustainable finance.

“The programme is titled ‘Be Smart About Money’ and is divided into four major components of financial planning: asset protection, asset accumulation, asset management, and asset distribution,” he explained.

Chang made the statement during a courtesy visit to the office of Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng earlier today.

In addition to the ‘My Money and Me’ programme, MFPC is also organising various programmes throughout the year, including free consultation sessions in collaboration with financial planning providers and financial services organisations.

It is also working closely with relevant regulatory authorities such as Bank Negara Malaysia, the Securities Commission Malaysia, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the Malaysian Youth Council to promote and emphasise the importance of having proper personal financial plans.

The programme is supported by the Financial Education Network, an inter-agency group co-chaired by Bank Negara Malaysia and the Securities Commission Malaysia. Its members include the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Higher Education, Perbadanan Insurans Deposit Malaysia, Employees Provident Fund, Agensi Kaunseling dan Pengurusan Kredit, and Permodalan Nasional Berhad.
