KUCHING, June 15: The Sarawak Pan Borneo Highway will be maintained by a company approved by the Ministry of Finance for three years starting the submission of completed packages in stages.
Works Minister Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the appointment of this company is subject to several conditions that have been set by the Finance Ministry.
“The ministry is in the procurement process to finalise the scope and cost of the project. Negotiations are ongoing and are expected to be completed by the end of the year.
“To ensure the continuity of government service delivery, the completed package will be maintained by the existing federal road maintenance concession.
“This is to ensure the safety and comfort of road users until the new contract is signed,” he said in Parliament today.
Nanta was responding to a question by Tanjong Manis MP Yusof Abdul Wahab who inquired about the maintenance works for the Sarawak Pan Borneo Highway after its completion.
In terms of progress, Nanta added that Phase 1 of the Sarawak Pan Borneo Highway project is 94 per cent completed as of April 2023.
He said most parts of the highway are expected to be completed by November 2023 except for some sections in Miri that need to be reconstructed and are scheduled to be completed in 2025. — DayakDaily
