Ferancis Liam, Fathier Jackrill power Central Zone to men’s 71kg gold sweep at Sarawak Games 2026

BETONG, Feb 5: Central Zone asserted their dominance at the Sarawak Games (SUKSAR) IV 2026 by sweeping both gold medals on offer in the men’s 71kg weightlifting event.

Ferancis Liam Ngelai clinched gold in the snatch with a lift of 70kg, while teammate Fathier Jackrill Shirley powered his way to gold in the clean and jerk with 95kg, adding two more top podium finishes to Central Zone’s tally.

The victory marked a personal milestone for Ferancis, who captured his maiden gold medal in the event.

“I hope this will be the starting point for me to keep pushing forward so I can achieve all my goals in the future,” he said, as he sets his sights on selection for Sarawak’s SUKMA XXII Selangor 2026 squad, according to Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas).

Ferancis also secured bronze in the clean and jerk with an 85kg lift, while Fathier picked up silver in the snatch.

Northern Zone’s Rapheal Alexie Cruz Roma rounded out the podium finishes, claiming bronze in the snatch with 60kg and silver in the clean and jerk after lifting 91kg. — DayakDaily
