KUCHING, April 1: A special taskforce or committee will be formed to involve the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry Malaysia (MAFI) and Ministry of Modernisation of Agriculture Sarawak to secure a long-term engagement between both parties.

Minister of Modernisation of Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development (MANRED) Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi said this when pointing out the importance of collaboration between Federal and Sarawak governments on agriculture matters.

“We need to have more frequent meetings. So, we have come to the decision earlier that we want to create our own taskforce so that we are able to iron out some matters.

“And if assistance is needed in any way, we can sort things out (through the special committee),” he said during andinner between MAFI and MANRED at a local hotel here tonight.

Meanwhile, MAFI Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee concurred with Dr Rundi’s suggestion that the Federal and State governments should have a better relationship to better serve the country.

“It (the taskforce) is a form of meeting that is more official between the two parties so that we can continue to cooperate and find the best ways to guarantee food security, amongst other issues,” he said.
