KUCHING, Sept 17: Malaysian Minister of Communications and Digital Fahmi Fadzil has expressed satisfaction with the commencement of the Malaysia Day 2023 celebration held at the Indoor Stadium here last night (Sept 16).
“The celebration was very encouraging and exciting with the various performances.
“Apart from the symbolic gimmicks, I think the content from the speeches of Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg were very meaningful.
“This includes the Premier’s announcement on Malaysia’s Kuching, Sarawak winning the bid to host the International Water Congress in 2028,” he told the reporters after the event here.
Fahmi, who is also the minister in charge of the celebration together with Sarawak’s Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Julaihi Narawi, mentioned that the event recorded a physical attendance of over 5,000 participants, which exceeded the initial target.
“Personally, this achievement is very meaningful to me since it is the first time I am in charge of such a celebration, and thus, it will not be forgotten,” he added.
Asked about next year’s celebration, he said the hosting of Malaysia Day will be done in turns, implying that there is little possibility for Sarawak to organise it for the third consecutive time.
For the record, this year is the second consecutive year that the Malaysia Day celebration has been held in Sarawak after 2019. — DayakDaily
