KUCHING, March 11: All federal government agencies, government-linked companies (GLCs), and government-linked investment companies (GLICs) will not host Aidilfitri open-house celebrations this year.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that this decision underscores prudent and responsible government spending amid volatile global conditions caused by escalating conflicts in West Asia, which have economic repercussions worldwide, across Asia, and in Malaysia.
“The decision is meant to set a positive example for Malaysians during a period of global economic uncertainty caused by rising oil prices and international conflicts.
“This sends a message for careful and moderate spending. These measures are prudent to avoid being caught in more severe economic conditions,” he said during a live-streamed special press conference from Putrajaya today.
Additionally, Anwar also stressed that only scheduled and mandatory overseas visits by ministers and government officials will proceed, while discretionary travel will be restricted.
“This is to ensure that government resources are prioritised for national preparedness and protecting the welfare of the rakyat,” he added.
The announcement comes as the government maintains RON95 petrol at RM1.99 per litre under the Budi95 initiative and ensures sufficient domestic fuel supply until May 2026, despite disruptions in global oil markets due to tensions in West Asia. — DayakDaily
