KUCHING, March 6: A father’s worst nightmare came true when his son’s body was discovered on the riverbank on Monday (March 4), after he was suspected to have drowned while fishing in Sungai Suang Trusan in Lawas.

The body of Eddy Geriso, 40, from Kampung Murud Suang, Trusan was found lying on his back on the bank of Sungai Suang Trusan at about 10pm after failing to return home since last Saturday (March 2).

According to Lawas District police chief DSP Liong Tindan, based on the testimony of the victim’s father, his son had left the house at 10pm last Saturday to catch fish in Sungai Suang near his house.

“After realising that his son did not return home, the victim’s father went to Sungai Suang to look for his son.

“While searching in the river, the victim’s father saw his son’s body and rushed to the Lawas police station to file a police report,” he said in a statement.

Liong added that a police team from the Criminal Investigation Division and Lawas Police Station arrived at the scene and discovered the victim lying on his back on the riverbank.

He stated that the victim died on the scene and was transported to Lawas Hospital for further examination before being taken to the mortuary at Klinik Trusan in Lawas.

Liong remarked that the preliminary investigation revealed no criminal elements in the case, which is still being investigated by the police. — DayakDaily
