SIBU, Aug 13: An elderly man and his son were detained for criminal intimidation using a meat cleaver yesterday (Aug 12).
A video of the incident, which lasted for one minute and 46 seconds, went viral on social media showing the elderly man threatening a group of customers at a car accessories shop in Jalan Bukit Assek with a meat cleaver.
Sibu district police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said the incident happened at about 11.30am when the shop tested a car audio system.
“The elderly man was angry with the loud noise from the shop about 10 metres from his home,” said Zulkipli.
The 69-year-old man then confronted the people at the shop with the meat cleaver, accompanied by his 33-year-old son.
“A heated argument ensued, with the elderly man swinging his meat cleaver at the men who were customers of the shop,” he added.
No one was injured in the incident.
Acting on a police report lodged by a 30-year-old man at 2pm, a police team went to the suspects’ home to arrest the two men. Police had also seized the meat cleaver from the suspect.
The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation. — DayakDaily
