KUCHING, Jan 4: A father is urgently seeking the safe return of his 23-year-old daughter, Janet, who secretly travelled abroad, reportedly to Cambodia, to work since Dec 30, 2024.

Janet’s father, Ng, and her brother, Alan, turned to the Sarawak United Peoples’ Party Public Complaints Bureau (SUPP PCB) for help, initially to locate her after losing communication and fearing she may have fallen victim to a job scam.

During a press conference at SUPP headquarters today, Foo, the head of SUPP PCB, revealed that Janet had contacted her brother the previous evening (Jan 3) using an Iran-registered mobile number (+98).

“The brief, two-minute conversation left Alan concerned, as he could hear Janet’s anxious voice, seemingly with someone else present. She assured him she was fine and would send money home, but when asked about her exact location, she avoided the question,” he said.

According to the family, Janet left the country on Dec 30, 2024, claiming she had found work in a supermarket in Kuala Lumpur. Her brother had accompanied her to the airport, but upon returning home, he discovered her passport was missing.

When he pressed her for details, Janet disclosed that she was heading to Cambodia for work. Alan filed a police report on the same night, but there has been no communication since until Jan 3, 2025.

“This is the first time we’ve found ourselves in this situation, and we don’t know her exact whereabouts to take further action.

“If she is indeed in Cambodia, we can request help from the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Malaysian Embassy in Cambodia to bring her back,” Foo explained.

In the meantime, Foo has appealed to the public and netizens to share any information about Janet with SUPP PCB or the police.

“We also hope that if Janet sees this news, she will return home safely. Her father and brother want her back,” Foo added. — DayakDaily
