Father, daughter missing after being swept away by river current in Baram

KUCHING, April 14: A 46-year-old man and his nine-year-old daughter are missing after they were believed to have been swept away by the river current while attempting to cross Sungai Sengayan in Baram using a four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle today.

According to a spokesperson from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), they were informed of the incident by the Marudi district police headquarters at around 12pm.

“Firefighters will move to the scene of the incident at 6am tomorrow (Apr 15) to assist in the search operation.

“This is because the location can only be accessed using 4WD vehicles, which will take between 10 and 12 hours via logging roads and river routes,” said the spokesperson.

The male victim, Dawellies Luing, is a staff member at SK Long Jekitan. His daughter has been identified as Vallerie Mentie Dawellies. — DayakDaily
