KUCHING, Oct 14: A 61-year-old woman died following an accident at Jalan Bau–Lundu near Kampung Sepadah on Monday evening (Oct 13).
In a statement, Bau District Police Chief DSP Mohd Haide A. Rahman said the accident occurred around 4.40pm when the driver of a Perodua Bezza carrying five passengers allegedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to skid off the road and crash into a water pipe belonging to the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB).
“Two victims were taken to Bau Hospital in ambulances from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) and the Civil Defence Force (APM), while four others were transported in private vehicles,” he said.
At 7.33pm, the elderly victim was pronounced dead while receiving treatment at the hospital’s emergency unit.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
