SONG, Aug 8: A 42-year-old farmer has been arrested on suspicion of criminal intimidation and setting fire to a ‘bilik’ of a longhouse at Nanga Tengadak, Katibas on Thursday (Aug 5).

Song district police chief, DSP Rowney Michael Jalak said in a statement that the suspect was apprehended yesterday after a police report was lodged by the alleged victims.

On Thursday the suspect had allegedly gone berserk after learning that the 77-year-old victim’s son, 22, was staying in a ‘bilik’ of the longhouse which belonged to his father.

The elder victim in his police report claimed that while he and his son were in the verandah of the longhouse, the suspect suddenly showed up armed with a knife.

“The suspect came to them and threatened to kill the victim’s son. Seeing this, his son quickly locked himself in the room,” Rowney said.

This further angered the suspect who rushed home to fetch a spear. When he came back to the scene, he shouted for the younger man to come out.

“As the younger man refused to heed his demand, the suspect allegedly set fire to the room,” said Rowney.

The fire partially damaged the ‘bilik’ and had also spread to the adjacent ‘bilik’.

The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for causing criminal intimidation and Section 435 of the same code for causing mischief by fire. — DayakDaily
