KUCHING, Nov 4: After a gruelling seven-day operation, the fire at a tyre factory at Batu 9, Jalan Indah Ria, here was finally put out today.
According to a report from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the operation involved 17 firefighters from the Kota Samarahan and Kota Sentosa stations.
Also involved were four personnel from the Fire Investigation Division Headquarters and two from the Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB).
Overhaul and cooling operations were continued until the fire was fully extinguished today.
Excavation works were carried out with the help of two excavator units to remove piles of burning tyres, while fire crews executed direct attack and cooling efforts using multiple water streams supplied through a relay pumping system from nearby hydrants.
The operation ended at 3pm.
The incident initially drew attention on Oct 29 when plumes of thick black smoke were seen billowing into the sky from the industrial area, prompting a large-scale firefighting effort. — DayakDaily
