KUCHING, Oct 30: Two factories at Jalan Indah Ria, Batu 9, caught fire late last night, and thick smoke could still be seen billowing as firefighters continue efforts to fully extinguish the fire.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Kota Samarahan received a call about the incident at 11.31pm last night and immediately dispatched a team to the site.

Upon arrival, the team found a pile of used tyres, measuring approximately 60 by 60 feet, engulfed in flames outside a factory building. The intense fire quickly spread to adjacent structures.
One used tyre factory was completely destroyed, while a nearby recycled plastic factory sustained about 60 per cent damage. Both buildings, each measuring around 100 by 80 feet, were affected, but no casualties were reported.
Operations Commander Christian Olas, head of the Kota Samarahan Fire Station, led the operation, assisted by senior officers Lavita anak Suok from Bomba Headquarters and Ahmad Faris Azli, the State Operations Officer.

The firefighting operation involved multiple streams and nozzles connected to two nearby hydrants, supported by water tankers and relay pumping over 300 feet from various stations.
Excavator assistance is currently being sought to dig through the smouldering tyre piles for complete extinguishment.
Although the blaze has been brought under control, firefighters remain on-site battling lingering flames and conducting overhaul operations to prevent reignition.
As of press time, the operation is still ongoing. – DayakDaily
