KUCHING, March 5: Social media giants Facebook and Instagram are currently down for users worldwide in an outage tonight.

The platforms have flatlined a little around 11pm local time, with international news reports pouring in soon after the disruption began.

The outage began with users logged out of their Facebook accounts and upon attempting to re-login, Facebook insisted that it does not recognise the user’s password.

On the other hand, users of Instagram — which is owned by Facebook parent company Meta — have also reported issues regarding search and other functions in the app.

As of the time of writing, service has still not been restored.

The cause of the outage is still unknown. — DayakDaily
