KUCHING, Feb 25: Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) president Datuk Larry Sng is of the view that Sarawak Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) members should join Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) if they hope to secure their political future.

According to Free Malaysia Today (FMT), Sng, who is the ex-chief of Sarawak PKR, expressed doubt that Sarawak PKR would be a serious contender in the upcoming State election.

He said this is because Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who is also PKR president, needs GPS’ support at the federal level.

Another point the Julau MP brought up was that Sarawak PKR lacked funds and had been advised by their leaders at the federal level not to do anything that might cause trouble.

“If they want to have a future in politics, their members should just join GPS. Even hardcore former PKR leaders like Baru Bian and Willie Mongin have become members of GPS components,” he said to FMT.

At the same time, Sng opined that Sarawak PKR does not need to contest in the State election to contribute to national politics.

On Feb 24, Sarawak PKR announced its intention to contest in the upcoming State election.

GPS holds 80 out of 82 State seats, and the remaining two are held by the Democratic Action Party (DAP).

In the last Sarawak Election in 2021, the State PKR party contested 28 seats but failed to secure any, causing 22 of its candidates to lose their deposits. In the State election before that in 2016, the party won three seats. — DayakDaily
