Ex-soldier jailed six months, gets three rotan strokes for robbery

KUCHING, Dec 13: The Sessions Court here sentenced a former soldier to six months’ imprisonment and three strokes of the cane for robbing a woman with a penknife.

The 20-year-old accused, from Melaka pleaded guilty to the charge framed under Section 392 of the Penal Code read together with Section 397 of the Penal Code, which provides for a jail term up to 14 years and with whipping, upon conviction.


Sessions Court Judge Afidah Abdul Rahman today convicted the accused as charged after hearing the accused’s social report. She sentenced him to six months’ imprisonment and four strokes of the cane, with effect from the date of arrest, April 4, and allowed the accused to serve his jail sentence in Melaka.

The accused was charged with robbing a 22-year-old woman in front of a shop at Kota Sentosa at about 4.30pm on March 6, 2022, causing loss of about RM600 to the victim.

It was understood that the accused was in debt.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohamad Aiman Mutalib Mohamad Shariff prosecuted while the accused was unrepresented by counsel. — DayakDaily
