KUCHING, Dec 25: An underprivileged family from Kampung Sungai Maong, whose plight recently went viral, is set to be relocated to a flat at Taman Dahlia owned by the Sarawak Housing Development Corporation (HDC).

In a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news, Minister for Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah expressed her gratitude to Tupong assemblyman Dato Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman and HDC for their willingness to assist the family.

“Through his Service Centre, Dato Fazzrudin will cover the deposit and pay the rental for six months, from January to June next year.

“From July onwards, the family will be responsible for continuing the rental payments,” she said after visiting the Homeless Transit Centre (TTG) Kuching on Wednesday night (Dec 24).

She urged the family to make the most of this opportunity, especially as the new accommodation provides a safer and more conducive environment for the children.

Fatimah also encouraged that one of the children be enrolled in school starting next year to ensure the child is cared for, remains safe, and has access to education, in line with the Child Act 2001.

For context, the family of nine, including six children, had been living in dire conditions in Kampung Sungai Maong after being evicted from Kampung Gita Laut. — DayakDaily
