Enforcement assistant remanded for six days, allegedly received bribes to protect subsidized diesel smuggling syndicate

KUCHING, Aug 27: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has obtained a remand for an enforcement assistant from an enforcement agency in Kuching for allegedly receiving bribes from a diesel smuggling syndicate operating in Sibu.

The six-day remand order until Sept 2, 2024, for the male suspect in his 40s was issued by Magistrate Mason Jaro after a request by MACC at the Kuching Magistrate’s Court this morning.

According to sources, the suspect was detained at the Sarawak MACC Office around 3.25pm yesterday when he was present to give a statement.

The arrest of the suspect follows Op Liter, conducted by the MACC Special Operations Division at an oil storage depot in Sungai Bidut, Sibu, last Sunday (Aug 25).

The suspect is believed to have received the bribes from the syndicate to protect their activities of smuggling subsidized diesel and to avoid taking legal action.

The case is being investigated under Section 16(b)(B) of the MACC Act 2009. — DayakDaily
